“It is through the alignment of the body that I discovered the alignment of my mind, self and intelligence” –B.K.S. Iyengar, Light on Life
This workshops focuses on the alignment of the yoga poses (asanas) based on the Iyengar methodology.
Standing poses (Uttistha Sthitti) are the foundation for the rest of the poses; they bring our attention to how we stand. They also correct the posture of the body, deformity in the legs and tone the leg muscles. They prepare the body to go into more complex poses by creating the right imprints and actions.
You can expect a dynamic and active workshop where you will:
- Learn the necessary actions and arrows of movement to perform the Standing Poses.
- Learn to synchronize the movements of arms and legs.
- Bring awareness to the remote areas of the extremities.
- Look at different bodies performing the same asana and visualize how by applying the correct actions you can bring the body in alignment physically and energetically.
We will explore extension and expansion through vertical and horizontal movement, creating physical ease while cultivating a joyful and playful mind fit for concentration and contemplation.
This workshop is for yoga students with at least 6 months of yoga experience. It is also a great opportunity for yoga teachers to deepen their knowledge on the anatomical asana alignment and techniques to adjust the asanas for different body types and conditions.
